Job Summary:
The Certified Home Health Aide (CHHA) provides compassionate, high-quality care to patients
in their homes under the supervision of a licensed nurse or healthcare professional. The CHHA
assists with personal care, daily living activities, and ensures a safe and supportive environment
for clients.
Key Responsibilities:
Patient Care:
- Assist with personal hygiene, including bathing, dressing, grooming, and oral care.
- Support mobility, including transferring, positioning, and ambulation.
- Help with toileting, incontinence care, and changing linens as needed.
- Monitor and report changes in the patient’s condition, behavior, or environment to the supervising nurse.
Daily Living Activities:
- Prepare and serve meals according to dietary requirements or restrictions.
- Provide assistance with feeding if necessary.
- Perform light housekeeping tasks, including laundry, dishwashing, and tidying patient areas.
Health Support:
- Remind patients to take medications as prescribed (under supervision).
- Monitor vital signs such as temperature, pulse, and respiration (if within scope of practice).
- Assist with prescribed exercises or therapy routines as directed by healthcare professionals.
Emotional and Social Support:
- Offer companionship and engage patients in meaningful conversations and activities.
- Provide emotional support and encourage independence when possible.
- Assist with shopping, errands, and accompanying patients to medical appointments when approved.
Safety and Documentation:
- Maintain a safe environment by identifying and minimizing risks in the home.
- Follow infection control protocols and hygiene standards.
- Document care provided and communicated regularly with the care team.
Qualifications:
- Current and valid Certified Home Health Aide (CHHA) certification in the state of employment.
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Ability to follow care plans and instructions from supervising healthcare professionals.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Physical ability to lift, bend, and perform caregiving duties.
Preferred Skills and Experience:
- Experience working with elderly or disabled individuals.
- Knowledge of basic medical terminology and procedures.
- Bilingual capabilities are a plus.
Work Environment:
- Primarily works in patient homes, requiring travel between locations.
- Must adhere to safety standards and wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) when needed.
